Case study No.1

Early in 2006 I fell on the bus, following which my right arm was painful and I was unable to raise it properly or get it behind my back. I was also having pain in my left-arm because of arthritis and restricted in its movement.

Subsequently it was found that I had ruptured the tendon in my right arm and it was inoperable because I am 96 years old.

Geoff Sewell gave me Reiki treatment a number of times in February/ March 2006 on both my arms and the movement in my arms improved significantly. I now have much more flexibility and can raise my arms unaided. There is no pain and I can reach to get items out of high cupboards.

Then in May 2006 I hurt my back severely after another fall on a bus. This resulted in my being unable to carry out any task without pain and having to rest after short periods of activity.

I went to see Geoff about five weeks later for more Reiki treatment. Prior to one session, I also experienced pain in my shoulder as though the pain in my back was moving to other areas.During this session the pain was moving around my back and up to my shoulder. It was as if we were chasing the pain to remove it. After this last session I found that the pain had gone one and everything was back to normal.

I am part of a watercolour group run by Stan Kaminski and this was one of the paintings that we tackled and the first one that I had done as a portrait.

Reiki explained

What is Reiki?

This is a common question and short explanation of the concepts of Reiki and its derivation is contained below.

In Japanese Rei is the creative expression of our universal surroundings. It is all that we see, smell, taste, touch, feel and hear. Ki is Japanese for energy or power. Ki is the life force energy that flows through our bodies, also known as ‘parana’ or ‘chi’. Therefore Reiki is considered to be a system of energy healing which guides 'Universal Life Force Energy'.

A Reiki practitioner channels Reiki energy through their hands and recipients may be aware of heat emanating from the practitioners hands. Reiki helps the bodies natural ability to heal itself by removing blocks and restoring energy balance. It is also a useful tool for self awareness and can be used alongside other complementary therapies such as massage to enhance the treatment or alone as complete treatment.

Within a Reiki treatment the practitioner works on a person's seven major energy centres (Chakras). Each centre relates to and vitalises a different part of the physical body and has different emotional, mental and spiritual functions. The aim of Reiki is to balance these centres so that energy flows through them and they vibrate properly.

Treatment includes placing the hands above, or on, the head, shoulders, stomach and feet. In addition, other positions may be used for specific conditions the client may have. It often creates a wonderful radiance that is deeply relaxing and includes many beneficial affects for both client and practitioner.

This method of healing was developed by Dr. Mikao Usui in Japan early in the 20th Century, but it is believed to have been an established form of healing in the East long before this.
